Delicious Food/Odd Food What's Still On The Menu?

Positive Things This is a Bad Day Looking Ahead: What Shall I Eat?

There are so many diets out there now that we've entered the Twilight Zone. The Atkins Diet was the first, followed by the South Beach and now the Hamptons Diets. All of them are lower in carbohydrates and greater in protein, but the difference should be in the quality of carbohydrates, not in the absence of any other nutrients. To follow a high-protein, low-carb diet plan like the Atkins or the South Beach, or any other similar plan, just cut out processed carbs like sugar and refined flour and replace them with more whole foods like fresh produce and, yes, fruits.

Which Are Better: Apples or Apple Jacks?

Consider this for a second: the classic Atkins Diet discourages fruit consumption due to its high sugar content. While I really believe that apples are a healthy dietary choice, I'm not sure that Apple Jacks cereal is up to par. One is artificially sweetened with corn syrup and white sugar, while the other is all-natural, made from fruit that has been sun-ripened. What would be your preference? Avoid limiting your intake of fresh fruit just because you're trying to stick to a strict low-carb diet.

Cutting back significantly on the frequency of consuming highly processed meals is the best approach to learn to eat better, not eliminating nutritious, wholesome foods. God Made or Man Made is what it was called on one website. It becomes clearer when you consider those terms while making your food selections. No one is saying you can't have chips or anything else that tickles your fancy, but limit yourself to GM foods on occasion and enjoy the occasional treat.

Simple Nutrition Plan

When asked what to eat, common sense will tell you. Natural foods are fine to eat while following a low-carb diet plan like the Atkins or the South Beach. For example, instead of using "instant" breakfast, try cooking entire rolled oats. Well, it's possible you'll need to wake up a little earlier. You are valuable.

You can still follow a diet with a higher protein content; but, with this small change, you may make it a lifelong commitment instead of a temporary one. Not being able to eat my fruit every day would drive me crazy. In particular, I adore fruit. Vitamin C and other nutrients, such as bio-flavonoids, are delicious, and I believe there's a solid reason why people crave sweets.

Are Fruit Addictions Possible?

People who say they're "addicted to fruit" make me wonder what they actually eat. If someone thinks fruit is too sugary, they generally also eat sugary snacks like crackers, cookies, and cereal. So they're willing to consume sugary and artificially flavored beverages, but they won't touch food that comes straight from the ground? Upon further reflection, that becomes incomprehensible. Were processed foods essential to Earth's development and survival? Absolutely not. As far as our planet's history is concerned, they are quite young. Not long ago, actually. Even though our planet has been around for millions of years, processed foods have only been around for about 200.

It would be impossible to look at the high rates of obesity and processed food intake and not assume that they are related. The businesses that employ us rely on our purchases to sustain their operations, so you won't hear big business making that argument. No matter how compelling the evidence, the news will never carry the story that "scientists discovered refined flour kills," since such a claim would go against to our values. We require business.

I can imagine a world without the industrialized meat business after seeing the spread of food-borne diseases like Mad Cow and now Bird Flu. Because the large-scale farming business cannot ensure the safety of the food supply, it will come to pass that only locally-owned farms will be permitted to sell meat. When mass production of meat is halted, prices will rise sharply since there is no other option. So, should we bemoan our plight and vent our frustrations, or should we remember the good old Sunday roasts and learn to appreciate meat for its flavor and texture? Back then, we weren't overweight and rarely ate meat. We just cut back on processed meals. The majority of us grew up with our mothers preparing our meals from scratch, whether it was dinner, lunch, or morning.
